  1. JOLLOF RICE AND RAM STIR FRY

Everyone loves a bowl of sweet rice with plenty of meat to go with. Besides, what is an authentic Nigerian meal without the word “Jollof” in it? This easy meal is made with ram meat, vegetable oil, mixed vegetables (Green bell pepper, spring onions, carrots, and red bell pepper), garlic, seasoning, and soy sauce. The natural spices added in the jollof rice give it an unforgettable rich signature known as ‘Nigerian Jollof’. When cooked perfectly, this recipe can turn into a dish per excellence.

  • BOILED SEMI RIPE PLANTAIN WITH VEGETABLE MACKEREL FISH STEW

Talk of a treat for low-carb meal lovers. The rich spinach fish stew is a yummy blend of scotch bonnets, spinach, locust beans, fish, red bell pepper, crayfish, and plantain. This combo is essentially rich in potassium, a nutrient that regulates your heartbeat and enables your muscles to function normally. You can serve this tasty meal for lunch or dinner.

  • TUWO SHINKAFA WITH BEAN SOUP

Tuwo shinkfa is a very popular North delicacy made with local rice or rice flour and served with Miyan Wake, also known as beans soup. This aromatic dish has been part of the Hausa tradition through generations. It is a better alternative for Eba or fufu because of the cholesterol level and gluten intake.

This is the Beyoncé of the soup world, ever golden, evergreen. It is a delicious recipe made with ground melon seeds and lots of assorted meat/crayfish. These ingredients make up the taste and creamy texture of the soup. Egusi is protein-rich and can be served with a plate of wheat or fufu or eba. The soft molds of wheat and savory flavor of Egusi is nothing short of fireworks.

  • OHA SOUP AND AKPU

If you’ ever met any of our brothers’ from the East and they describe the wonder that is Akpu served with any rich soup like Oha, you will be amazed at how special this dish is. Oha, a soup usually made with Uziza leaves, assorted meat, Ogiri, and thickened with cocoa yam, is highly rich in vitamin C and E to keep your skin radiant.  While the grain-like texture of Akpu makes the starchy side dish a worthy complement.

  • SHRIMPS, CRAYFISH MOIN-MOIN WITH A SLICE OF EGG AND IJEBU GARRI

You cannot go wrong with a bowl of cold Ijebu garri but watch out for the carbs though. Add a steamed bean cake blended with shrimps, crayfish, flaked fish, and eggs and you know you’ve arrived in “shalaye” heaven. This is one of the representative meals in Nigeria that reminds you of the culinary heritage of classy and bougie dishes.
