Essential Routines to Keep Your Skin Healthy

The skin is one of the most important parts of our body, yet many people take it for granted. In most cases, when people talk about taking care of their skin, they only emphasise on their face.

Here are tips to ensuring a healthy skin.

  • Avoid the sun: Staying away from the sun is very important in keeping your skin healthy. Too much exposure to the sun causes wrinkles, age sports and skin diseases. It also increases the risk of cancer. If you have to be in the sun, use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and seek shade from time to time. Avoid the sun as much as possible between 10am and 4pm, because that’s when the sun rays are strongest.
  • Be courteous on how you treat your skin: Bath time should be limited, especially hot water baths. So, reduce your bath time to ten minutes at the most, using room temperature or warm water rather than hot water. After having a bath, gently part your skin dry with a towel, allowing some moisture to remain on your skin. It is also important to use moisturisers that fit your skin. For daily use, it’s advisable to use moisturisers that contain SPF.
  • Healthy Diet: A healthy diet helps the skin in a lot of ways. Drinking lots of water, eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins are magic items to consume to keep your skin fresh and glowing. Research also suggests that diet rich in fish oil, fish oil supplements, low in unhealthy fat, or refined carbohydrates might promote younger looking skin.
  • Avoid stress: Stress affects the skin in various ways. It triggers acne, breakouts and other skin problems. So, avoid stress, get enough sleep and take time out to do the things you enjoy.
